Come join ISE’s faculty and fellow students as they welcome Remi Goulet from Saint-Gobain Research North America as he discusses the life of an R&D Engineer.

As always refreshments will be served from 10:30 – 10:50 am in room 428 Daniels Hall.

Abstract

Saint-Gobain is present in 68 countries with more than 180,000 employees. The company designs, manufactures and distributes materials and solutions which are key ingredients in the well being of each of us and the future of all. They can be found everywhere in our living places and our daily life: in buildings, transportation, infrastructure and in many industrial applications. The talk will provide an overview of the various applications covered by Saint-Gobain, and of the efforts undertaken by the company to embrace the global digital transformation. The talk will also highlight a sampling of R&D projects aimed at the development of connected objects, and the improvement of manufacturing processes through the implementation of measurement systems and the utilization of data. Finally, the talk will highlight the professional life of an R&D engineer, as well as possible career paths and opportunities at Saint-Gobain.

Bio

Dr. Goulet leads the Data and Measurement Solutions Research and Development team at Saint-Gobain Research North America in Northborough, MA. His team supports the various businesses of Saint-Gobain through the development of sensing solutions for the improvement of manufacturing processes and connected objects. The team also utilizes data science to accelerateR&D efforts and support industry 4.0 initiatives.Dr. Goulet received his Ph.D. in 2011 from the National Institute for Applied Sciences (Lyon, France), where his thesis focused on simultaneous heat and mass transfer in critical components of an innovative automotive air conditioning system. He joined Saint-Gobain in 2013 where he initially focused on solving transport phenomena problems before gradually transitioning into a managerial role in the digital field.
