SME student chapter logo

SME, formerly known as the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, is an international organization that supports the manufacturing community. It promotes advanced manufacturing technology while also developing a highly skilled workforce. Through research, discussions, and hands-on learning, SME helps students gain valuable knowledge and experience in the field. Additionally, the chapter encourages students to become members by introducing them to SME’s mission and objectives. If you’re interested in manufacturing, you can learn more about SME and become a member today! Find out more about SME and become a member here!

Stay Connected with SME Events

To keep up with SME’s exciting tours, workshops, and events, check out ourGoogle Calendar for updates. We host various activities throughout the semester, ensuring students have opportunities to engage with the manufacturing industry.

Exciting SME Activities

Throughout the semester, SME organizes a variety of events designed to help students expand their knowledge, build industry connections, and gain real-world experience.

We conduct the following activities for our students throughout the semester:

Factory Tours

We arrange factory tours each semester, offering students firsthand exposure to manufacturing facilities across different engineering domains. Since spots are limited, make sure to sign up early! Tours typically take place on Fridays from 9 AM to Noon.

Information Sessions

As students gear up for their professional careers, we help them get a boost by conducting interactive information sessions. The sessions involve a 30-minute presentation by the company representatives, followed by 90 minutes of personal interactions. Usually, there’s free pizza too!

Manufacturing Design Competitions and Workshops

We also host company professionals to conduct Design for Manufacturing Workshops or Hackathon Challenges such as the “Design for AM” challenge held in 2017, where the students had to design a new 3D printable folding wheel for Mars Rover.

All the work that we do would not be possible without the hard work of our members. And they reap the benefits too. Our student members get to connect and work with industry representatives from various domains, thus building long-lasting professional relationships.
