Processes Laboratory | NC State ISE
Welcome to the ISE Processes Lab
Here, in the processes laboratory, you’ll use the latest tools in forming, molding, casting, removing, and joining materials.
Starting your sophomore year, you’ll begin hands-on learning that continues throughout your entire time at ISE.
First, you’ll learn the basics in a safe, guided environment. Then, you’ll apply those lessons to real-world lab projects.
Along the way, you’ll gain skills that help you succeed in advanced courses and future research work.
In addition, a full-time machinist and experienced graduate students are here to guide and support you.
Because of their help, you can safely explore new techniques and improve your technical confidence.
The lab also serves as the hub for manufacturing-based classes, projects and research activities.
It even includes a computer workstation and multimedia tools to support meetings and presentations.
More importantly, the lab helps you think like an engineer.
You won’t just follow steps—you’ll solve problems, build solutions and learn from each attempt.
As you progress, you’ll work closely with classmates, faculty and research teams.
Together, you’ll turn creative ideas into working models and useful results.
You’ll also learn how to manage tools, plan workflows and meet deadlines. These skills matter in both labs and careers.
In time, you’ll build confidence, improve communication and learn how to lead project teams with purpose.
By the time you graduate, you’ll leave with real-world experience that employers look for with the processes laboratory.
Before you begin, review the safety checklist that has been linked below and follow all guidelines to protect yourself and others.
