Research Description
Hengfeng’s current research primarily focuses on two metallic powder based additive manufacturing (AM) systems, Selective Laser Melting (SLM) and Electron Beam Melting (EBM).The research is trying to investigate the influence of both chemical and physical properties of powder material on the behavior of the build processes as well as the as-built part performance. Various pre-alloyed powder materials including CoCr, Ti6Al4V and IN718 are currently used in this research. The potential research outcome will give a comprehensive understanding of how powder materials behave in AM process and provide guidance for powder certification to achieve desired as-built part properties, which will greatly benefit powder suppliers for AM industries.
