Professional Experience & Qualifications

Dr. Capan’s industry and research experience have addressed the dynamics of physiological deterioration and recovery processes utilizing data mining of large-scale healthcare data, statistical analyses, and Markovian decision models. Key findings identified optimal safety interventions that minimized the time spent in distressed health conditions while taking patient and provider heterogeneity into consideration. Further, her industry experience focuses on implementation aspects of healthcare analytics, e.g., deployment of novel risk-stratification methods to enhance timely care delivery by categorizing and predicting sequential clinical events and designing alert management frameworks to find a balance between the information need and overload. She enjoys teaching business analytics and statistics classes, and mentoring students.
