Advisory Board Chair Notes | May 2018

It is remarkable to see the level of energy throughout the ISE department as our new department head, Dr. Julie Swann, continues to put her stamp on the department.

One of those stamps is the renewed commitment to finding and recruiting the best and brightest students and faculty. The advisory board applauds the efforts of our faculty and alumni as they travel not only around the country but around the world, engaging the next generation of ISE students and faculty.

On a personal note, I would like to thank one of our own advisory board members, Gayle Lanier, for delivering the commencement address at this year’s ISE fall graduation. She inspired our graduates by sharing her wisdom, experience, and lessons learned throughout her career.

The advisory board would also like to congratulate ISE’s Distinguished Engineering Alumni Class of 2017. Please welcome Jeffrey Johnson (BSIE ‘78), Dr. Jeffrey Joines (BSIE ‘90, MSIE ‘93, and Ph.D. ‘96), Dr. Nancy Larson (MSIE ‘88), and Juli Trexler (BSIE ‘97). They were inducted at this year’s homecoming festivities that featured a keynote address by Dr. Nancy Currie-Gregg, a former NASA Astronaut. Dr. Currie-Gregg thrilled us with an insider’s view of what it was like to go on a mission to space. You can see more at [4…3…2…1 Homecoming LINK]

Finally, I am excited to see that construction has begun on the future home of our department, Fitts-Woolard Hall. You can watch its progress live from four different webcams by going to go.ncsu.edu/FittsWoolardCam. Please support future generations of industrial engineering students by contacting Lora Bremer at 919.513.0983 or lora_bremer@ncsu.edu.
