Advisory Board Chair Notes | November 2017

I would like to start this article by recognizing Dr. Paul Cohen for his tireless service and dedication to the ISE Department over the last 10 years. On behalf of the ISE Advisory Board, students, staff, faculty, and alumni, I say, “Thank you.”

With Dr. Cohen stepping down, it gives me the opportunity to welcome our first female department head, Dr. Julie Swann. Dr. Swann comes to us from Georgia Tech and brings a renewed excitement and fresh vision to our department as she works to grow and expand our programs, recruit excellent faculty, and attract top-quality students. You can read all about her thoughts and vision for ISE at She’s Eager to Tell the ISE Story.

Along with our new department head, we welcome two new members to our advisory board. We are fortunate to have Cheryl Doninger and Stuart Nisbet, both from SAS Institute, on our team. Cheryl is an NC State Engineering alumna who received her master’s degree in computer studies in 1986. Stuart Nisbet is also an NC State Engineering alumnus, having received his bachelor’s degree in computer science in 1987. You can see more about their impressive careers at Welcome Board Members.

Finally, the Engineering Oval Building project continues to move forward. The NC State Engineering Foundation continues to work toward its goal of $60 million in private donations. If you would like to contribute to the efforts, please contact Lora Bremer, executive director of major gifts and campaign planning at 919.513.0983 or lora_bremer@ncsu.edu.
