Ivy Solving Hunger with Numbers

ISE’s Julie Ivy and NCA&T’s Lauren Davis are using millions of numbers to solve the hunger problem in North Carolina

Although the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina is the largest in the state, they can’t feed everyone. Enter researchers Dr. Julie Ivy and Dr. Lauren Davis. They are engineers who realized that data could revolutionize how food banks operate. By mining through millions of records and translating the numbers into useful information, they helped the non-profit reduce food waste while maximizing the number of people they can reach.
