Nominate Someone for a Departmental Award

ISE Outstanding Research Award

Recognize current faculty members of all rank for excellence in research of the past three years and the potential for winning various research awards in the college/university/society levels.

Eligibility and Nomination Criteria:

  • Nominations should contain a clear statement of specific research achievements for which a nomination is made within the three-year period preceding the nomination
  • Nominations can be self-nominated or nominated by a fellow faculty member
  • Winner will not be eligible for the following three years.

Nomination Package:

  • 1 page summary statement of career highlight relating to specific research achievements
  • Updated CV (up to 10 pgs.)
  • Related Supporting Records (papers, patents, specific designs, grant awards, and honors are appropriate)
  • Nomination must be submitted via ISE Outstanding Research Award Google Form by April 7, 2021

Deliberation Process:

  • Award coordinator will work with the Department Head to identify a review committee that will consist of three members, at least one ISE Awards Committee member, at least one faculty member in the department.
  • Decisions made by April 15, 2021 and will presented at the CA Anderson Awards on April 20, 2021

ISE Faculty Scholar Award (up to two awardees)

Recognize current ISE (tenure track) assistant and associate professors for excellence in research, teaching, and service in the past three years and the potential for becoming a university faculty scholar. Up to two awardees per year.

Eligibility and Nomination Criteria:

  • Nominations should contain a clear statement of specific achievements in research, teaching, and service for which a nomination is made, during the three-year period preceding the nomination
  • Nominations can be self-nominated or nominated by a fellow faculty member
  • Winners will not be eligible for the following three years.

Nomination Package:

  • 1 page summary statement of career highlight relating to specific achievements pertaining to excellence in research, teaching, and service
  • Updated CV (up to 10 pgs.)
  • Related Supporting Records
  • Total nomination package can not exceed 25 pages
  • Nomination must be submitted via ISE Faculty Scholar Google Form by April 7, 2021

Deliberation Process:

  • Award coordinator will work with the Department Head to identify a review committee that will consist of three members, at least one member of ISE Awards Committee, at least one faculty member in the department, at least one distinguished professor.
  • Decisions made by April 15, 2021 and will presented at the CA Anderson Awards on April 20, 2021

ISE Outstanding Engagement/Service/Community Impact Award

Recognize current faculty members of all rank for the outstanding performance in service, engagement, and community impacts of the past three years and the potential for winning corresponding awards in the college/university/society levels.

Eligibility and Nomination Criteria:

  • Nominations should contain a clear statement of specific achievements made within the community through their service and engagement for three year period prior to the nomination
  • Nominations can be self-nominated or nominated by a fellow faculty member
  • Winner will not be eligible for the following three years.

ISE Outstanding Graduate Teaching/Mentoring Award

Recognize current ISE (tenure track and non-tenure track) faculty members of all rank for excellence in graduate teaching, graduate student mentoring, graduate program/course development in the past three years and the potential for winning various teaching/mentoring
awards in the college/university/society levels.

Eligibility and Nomination Criteria:

  • Nominations should contain a clear statement of specific achievements made within the community through their service and engagement for three year period prior to the nomination
  • Nominations can be self-nominated or nominated by a fellow faculty member
  • Winner will not be eligible for the following three years.

ISE Staff Awards of Excellence

Recognize current ISE staff members for excellence in service of the past three years and the potential for winning various staff awards in the college/university.

Eligibility and Nomination Criteria:

  • Nominations should contain a clear statement of excellence in service for the previous three years
  • Nominations can be self-nominated or nominated by a fellow faculty or staff member
  • Winner will not be eligible for the following three years.

Nomination Package:

  • 1 page summary statement of excellence in regard to Customer Service, Public Service, Efficiency and Innovation, Safety and Heroism, Human Relations, Outstanding State
  • Government, or the Spirit of North Carolina.
  • Related Supporting Records
  • Nomination must be submitted via ISE Outstanding Staff Award Google Form by April 7, 2021

Deliberation Process:

  • Award coordinator will work with the Department Head and Business Officer to identify a review committee that will consist of at least one ISE Awards Committee member, and the Department Head (or his/her designee), and past winners.
  • Decisions made by April 15, 2021 and will presented at the CA Anderson Awards on April 20, 2021

ISE Outstanding Doctoral Scholar of the Year Award

The ISE Outstanding Doctoral Scholar of the Year Award recognizes current doctoral students for excellence in doctoral research, scholarship, and professional achievements. Each year up to two students will be recognized.

Eligibility and Nomination Criteria:

  • Nominees must be current students in the ISE department. This includes students in the OR program whose research advisor is an ISE faculty member (current or expected doctoral committee chair or co-chair).
  • Nominees must have successfully passed the PhD qualifying exam and have a GPA of ≥3.5.Track records of nominees must be commensurate with their time in the graduate program.
  • Students must be nominated by an ISE faculty member. An ISE faculty member may nominate 1 student per year for this award.
  • A student can receive this award only once during the course of their PhD degree.

    • Name of PhD advisor/co-advisors (and other committee members, if applicable)

      • Personal statement highlighting excellence in doctoral research, scholarship, and professional achievements. (up to 2 pgs.)
      • 2 Recommendation Letters (up to 2 pgs. each). This includes the nominator’s letter.

Review Process:

  • 1 member of the ISE Awards Committee will be the award coordinator
  • The coordinator, with inputs from the rest of the Committee, will identify a selection committee of three members.
  • Potential members of the selection committee could include internal and external IE faculty.
  • The coordinator will share the nomination packages with the selection committee and internally determine up to two winners.

ISE Distinguished Dissertation Award

The ISE Distinguished Award recognizes recent PhD graduates who have written original, innovative dissertations that reflect outstanding technical contributions and are likely to have significant scientific and societal impact. Each year up to two graduates will be recognized.

Eligibility and Nomination Criteria:

  • Nominees must have successfully passed their PhD oral exam and submitted their final dissertation to the Graduate School during the previous calendar year. Students in the OR program that are advised by an ISE faculty (doctoral committee chair or co-chair) are eligible.
  • Students must be nominated by an ISE faculty member. An ISE faculty member may nominate 1 student per year for this award.

Nomination Process:

    • Dissertation title
    • ISE/OR PhD program start date and date of Final ETD Submission
    • Name of PhD committee chair/co-chairs and members
    • Name of current employer and position/title, if applicable
    • Name and email of ISE faculty nominator
    • Application materials (attachments):
      • CV (up to 3 pgs.)
      • Dissertation Summary and Impact Statement (up to 2 pgs.)
      • 2 Recommendation Letters (up to 2 pgs. each). This includes the nominator’s letter.

Review Process:

  • 1 member of the ISE Awards Committee will be the award coordinator
  • The coordinator, with inputs from the rest of the Committee, will identify a selection committee of three members.
  • Potential members of the selection committee could include internal and external IE faculty.
  • The coordinator will share the nomination packages with the selection committee and internally determine up to two winners.
  • Winner will automatically be nominated for the IISE Pritsker Dissertation Award, INFORMS Dantzig Dissertation

ISE Outstanding Master’s Student of the Year Award (up to 2 awardees)

The ISE Outstanding Masters Student of the Year Award recognizes current Master’s students for academic and professional excellence and commitment to the ISE department, profession, and community while at NC State. This can include academic and research achievements, excellence beyond course work, and commitment to advancing their studies through internships/work experience. Each year up to two students will be recognized.

Eligibility and Nomination Criteria:

  • Nominees must be current students in the ISE MS/MIE, MEM program, OR program, or the IMSE program with a GPA ≥3.5.
  • Students must be nominated by an ISE faculty member. An ISE faculty member may nominate 1 student per year for this award.
  • A student can receive this award only once during the course of their Master’s degree.

ISE Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award (up to 2 awardees)

The ISE Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award recognizes recent MS graduate(s) who has written original and innovative thesis or equivalent on a fundamental or applied topic of interest in the industrial engineering domain. Each year up to two students will be recognized.

Eligibility and Nomination Criteria:

  • Nominees must have successfully passed their MS/IMSE oral exam and submitted their final thesis or equivalent during the previous calendar year. Students in the IMSE/OR/MEM program that had a primary ISE faculty as a committee member are eligible.
  • Students must be nominated by an ISE faculty member. An ISE faculty member may nominate 1 student per year for this award.

Nomination Process:
