Professor Education Areas of Interest Robert E. Young has been a member of the Industrial Engineering faculty at North Carolina State University since 1988. He has worked extensively with the electronic and aerospace industries as a consultant and with them full time on leaves of absence from academia. He has been a Guest Professor at universities in Denmark, Germany, and Austria. For the U.S. National Science Foundation, he has participated on many panels and reviewed over 200 proposals. He has been working in the area of computer technology for 30 years and in manufacturing since 1975. He has had more than $6,000,000 in research funding during his career and published two books, four book chapters, and over 70 articles on various aspects of manufacturing. In 1982 he was named the Young Manufacturing Engineer of the Year by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. In 1978 he was a University Fellow with the U.S. Air Force's Integrated Computer-Aided Manufacturing (ICAM) Program and subsequently worked on many of its projects. He is Past Director of the Computer and Information Systems Division of the Institute of Industrial Engineers. Links |
