What is Industrial Engineering?Industrial Engineering is concerned with the design of production systems. The Industrial Engineer analyzes and specifies integrated components of people, machines, and facilities to create efficient and effective systems that produce goods and services beneficial to mankind. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering offers two undergraduate degree programs: the general Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, B.S.I.E., and the Furniture Manufacturing Concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, B.S.I.E., F.M. The B.S.I.E. and B.S.I.E., F.M degrees are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The departmental Undergraduate Handbook provides information on advising, academic policies and procedures, curriculum, student services and facilities, and student involvement. Graduate StudiesThe Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering offers a full graduate program. There are two Master's degree programs available: the Master's of Industrial Engineering, M.I.E., and the Master's of Science in Industrial Engineering, M.S. In addition, we offer a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Industrial Engineering. Admission for graduate study is granted by the NCSU Graduate School and all necessary application materials can be obtained online.
