Human Factors and Ergonomics Research Area
Our research consists of applied industrial ergonomics, biomechanics, and cognitive ergonomics. Our Ergonomics Center is also engaged in occupational ergonomics consulting, training programs, and cost-effective ergonomic solutions for corporations and individuals.
The Ergonomics Center of North Carolina. ISE faculty work with trained ergonomists and engineers at the Center on both theoretical and applied research. They conduct product and process evaluations and find answers to a broad range of questions relating to ergonomics and biomechanics.
NC State Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) Area. The ISE department houses three labs in the HFE area including the Biomechanics Lab, the Cognitive Ergonomics Lab, and the Human-Computer Interaction Lab. Examples of research being conducted in our lab by ISE faculty and students include:
- assessment of driver situation awareness under hazardous driving conditions
- computational cognitive modeling of pilot behavior in using advanced commercial aircraft automation
- electromyography analysis of muscle tasks and potential for repetitive stress injuries
- haptic interface and VR design for blind users and motor control rehabilitation applications
