Future Graduate Students

The graduate faculty in the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial Engineering supports a variety of academic and research interests leading to the M.I.E., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. For admissions classification and administrative purposes, the department recognizes four areas of concentration as follows:

  1. Human Factors and Ergonomics (includes human performance, occupational safety, and biomechanics);
  2. Manufacturing Systems (includes manufacturing processes, CAD/CAM, CIM, robotics, automation, and concurrent engineering);
  3. Production Systems (includes planning, scheduling, routing, inventory control, logistics, materials handling, facility design, reliability, quality control, and information systems); and
  4. Systems Analysis and Optimization (includes mathematical programming, stochastic processes, simulation, and modeling);

Faculty also participate in the Operations Research (OR) and Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) graduate programs. Many faculty also have close working relationships with the departments of Computer Science, Economics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Psychology, Statistics, Textile and Apparel Management, and Wood and Paper Science.
