Founded in 1931, the ABET* accredited Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at NC State University has a distinguished history of outstanding alumni, faculty, and service to North Carolina. The quality of our academic programs, along with the quality and demand for our graduates, allows for strong rapport and interaction with industrial firms and government agencies. Graduates of the department can be found throughout the State and the Southeast in engineering, consulting, healthcare, and manufacturing organizations, among many others.

Served by a distinguished faculty of 21 members, including several recipients of national and international awards for excellence in teaching, research, and public service, the total value of the Department's research contracts and grants awarded annually now approaches $2 million. With a continuing enrollment of about 230 undergraduate and 90 graduate students, the Department consistently ranks among the top 12 programs nationally in the annual US News and World Report survey.
